The Judicial Appointments Commission (JAC) has been asked to identify four candidates to recommend for the post of Senior Circuit Judge, Designated Family Judge including for the region of Surrey & Sussex.
The Designated Family Judge carries out significant leadership and management duties. Each Designated Family Centre has a Designated Family Judge who is responsible for that centre and for other family hearing centres in the area. The Designated Family Judges play a pivotal role in the administration of family justice and are responsible for promoting best practice and for developing and maintaining on circuit the national strategy for family justice in conjunction with the Presiding Judges including the Family Presiding Judge.
The Designated Family Judge is expected to lead all levels of the family judiciary (including other Circuit Judges as well as the district bench, the magistrates and legal advisers) at the courts for which they have responsibility, and to ensure, through powers delegated by the Lady Chief Justice to the President of the Family Division and the Family Presiding Judge, the effective and efficient discharge of judicial family business at those courts, within the resources allocated.
