The Judicial Appointments Commission (JAC) has opened applications for the role of District Judge (Magistrates’ Courts), with 30 vacancies available across England and Wales.

District Judges in the Magistrates’ Courts play a key role in the justice system, dealing with a wide range of criminal matters and ensuring the fair and efficient administration of justice.

This opportunity may be of particular interest to experienced solicitors, barristers and Fellows of CILEX within our membership who have a strong background in criminal law.

Eligibility

Candidates must:

  • Be a barrister, solicitor or Fellow of CILEX with at least five years’ post-qualification experience
  • Demonstrate substantial knowledge of criminal law and procedure
  • Have at least five years’ experience in criminal law, preferably with evidence from within the last five years
  • Have previous judicial experience
