Civil Justice Council Consultation: Reform of the Solicitors Act 1974 (Part III)

5th May 2026

The Civil Justice Council (CJC) has published an interim report and opened a consultation on the Reform of the Solicitors Act 1974 (Part III), inviting views from across the legal profession.
.

The consultation considers potential reforms to Part III of the Act, which governs the assessment of solicitors’ costs, and forms part of a broader review of how the current framework operates in practice.
.

Members are encouraged to review the interim report and respond to the consultation where relevant. Consultees do not need to answer all questions and may focus on those areas most applicable to their practice.
.

The consultation closes on 16 July 2026, and responses should be submitted by email to CJC.SolicitorsAct.Consultation@Judiciary.uk, together with the required cover sheet.
