New Major Incidents Response Plan Strengthens Access to Emergency Legal Support

8th June 2026

The Law Society and LawWorks have launched the Major Incidents Response Plan (MIRP), a coordinated framework designed to ensure that those affected by major incidents can access legal support when they need it most.
.

A key element of the new plan is a centralised Legal Pro Bono Platform, which will coordinate the provision of emergency legal advice following events such as terrorist attacks and other civic disasters. The platform is intended to help members of the public quickly access pro bono legal assistance from trained volunteer solicitors.
.

The Major Incidents Response Plan builds on the legal profession’s commitment to supporting communities during times of crisis, providing a structured approach to mobilising legal expertise when significant incidents occur.
.

Solicitors interested in contributing to the initiative are encouraged to register with LawWorks to join the volunteer panel and be ready to provide support when required.
.
