Law Society Webinar: Ministry of Justice Consultation on Interest on Lawyers’ Client Accounts (ILCA)

The Ministry of Justice is consulting on the implementation of a proposed Interest on Lawyers’ Client Accounts Scheme (ILCA), under which solicitors would be required to remit 75% of the interest earned on pooled client accounts and 50% of interest on individual client accounts to the Ministry of Justice, to help “strengthen the justice system”.

Every firm holding a client account would be affected by the proposals, regardless of firm structure, whether interest is currently received, or how client account interest is handled in practice.

The Law Society is urgently preparing a response to the consultation, which has a deadline of 9 February 2026, and is strongly encouraging members to submit their own responses.

Members are invited to join this webinar on Thursday 22 January 2026, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm, to gain insight into the proposals, understand the key areas of concern, and consider what they could mean in practice.

During the live session, attendees will also have the opportunity to share their views by responding to polls on some of the questions being asked by the Ministry of Justice as part of the consultation.
